When anxiety transpires, it often requires
a concentrated effort to make it through the day. Completing
the daily routines of life as in driving in traffic to get to
work, conducting household chores, and other minor tasks may
see overpowering. Nonetheless, there are grounding techniques
to quell these episodes of insanity. Practice any of the following
exercise to manage and hone your energy level throughout the
day.
My Ol' Oak Tree Meditation
Assume a comfortable seating position.
Allow the arms to rest at your sides. Next, close your eyes
and breathe deeply. Focus on taking slow and relaxed breathes.
Next visualize the body as an overgrown
oak tree. Equate your body with the wide sold brown trunk of
the tree. Picture your legs as sturdy roots extending from the
core of the earth as it anchors your body. Relate the feeling
to you as strong, solid and capable of handling stress.
When upsetting thoughts or situations
occur, visualize your body remaining grounded like an old oak
tree reminiscent of your childhood. Feel the strength and stability
in your arms and legs.
The Grounding Mind Sweeper
Another de-stressing exercise is the
grounding cord mind sweeper meditation. As you recline in a
comfortable position, allow the arms to rest along the side
of your body. Close your eyes then slowly inhale and exhale.
Focus on your breathing patterns.
Next visualize that a broad and wide
cord is attached to the base of your spine. The thick cord can
be either a rubber band, rope, telephone cord or any type of
cord that you can associate with grounding you. The concept
behind the cord is that it should be sturdy enough for an enormous
thick metal hook to attach itself to the end of your cord.
Then, imagine the grounding cord plummeting
two to three hundred feet below the earth. Next, picture, hooking
onto a solid core underneath the earth. Visualize your grounding
cord to be an anchor as it provides stability. Continue to inhale
and exhale steadily -- as a sense of peace takes of your body.
